Growing up, summer was all about extra freedom, no homework, making great memories that have lasted a lifetime, and eating sticky fruits that dripped down our chins. As an adult, I'm not a big consumer of fruit. There have been years when I would make smoothies in my Vitamix, jam packing as many fruits as possible into one glass. Then I learned that drinking smoothies is not a great way to consume fruit so I stopped. Maybe it's better than not consuming much fruit at all, the camp I have mostly fallen into, outside of some occasional blueberries or half of a banana. This week, however, I've been reminded of the joy of eating delicious watermelon! The kind of watermelon that does not come pre-chopped, but rather, comes from the entire watermelon and costs less than $5! It's possible for a family of 4 to eat from one watermelon for well over a week. What a bargain! My appreciation for eating juicy fruit in the summer has been rekindled. Happy I figured this out before the middle of July, I still have some summer runway! Bring on the peaches! Bring on the pineapple! Bring on the apricots! Bring on the mangoes! Bring on the sticky hands and the sticky chins! I for one am feeling inspired to enjoy my summer more by eating some sweet sticky whole, unpackaged, unprocessed, fresh summer fruit. Another generous gift made by Mother Nature herself! 🍉🍍🥭🍑
